TASTE OF PALAWAN. Tubbataha Salad is one of Kalui's best sellers.

When travelling to a certain town, we usually look for the best local food to try. The more bizarre, the better. So when we went to Puerto Princesa, Palawan, we tried the famous Tubbataha salad of Kalui.

Kalui is a known restaurant in Palawan. Almost every traveler who went to the province recommends dining in Kalui. People keep on coming back to the place because of its delicious seafood, artsy decors, and traditional Filipino ambiance.

Kalui elicits homey ambiance as if you are dining in your own kitchen.

The restaurant shows the rich culture of Palawan province.

What I loved most about Kalui is its peculiar salad named after a Palawan's marine park - the Tubbataha Reefs. Tubbataha salad (₱180) is made of fresh tuna strips, ripe mangoes, melon, grapefruit, seaweeds, and cashew nuts. Weird combination, right? The taste, however, is weirdly great!

Aside from the salad, we had Kalui Special of the Day Set (₱435) which includes fish steak, prawns, veggies, fish roll in coconut cream, rice, and soup. Other items we tried were a squid platter (₱255) and a fresh coconut juice served on a young coconut shell.

Kalui Special of the Day Set includes these delicious prawns.

Fish rolls in coco cream are also part of Kalui's set meal.

Right after we finished our lunch, we visited Kalui's gallery at the back of the restaurant. Most of the paintings say something about the culture of Palawan.

FISHERMEN. A painting depicting the common livelihood in Palawan is displayed in Kalui's gallery.

Aside from being a restaurant, Kalui also has a gallery of great artworks.

It was really nice to taste and see Puerto Princesa through Kalui.

Kalui is a must-visit food haven in Puerto Princesa.
